International student?! Well first of all welcome to the UK. And to York! I’m sure the change (from your home country to the UK) must have been quite a shock to your system. If you’re finding it too cold, just wrap up tight... it will get even colder!
Just to re-emphasize... A WARM WELCOME TO YOU from UYCU
The Christian Union at York University (UYCU) is a group of Christians keen to share our friendships, lives and faith with every student on campus including International students. The exciting message God has let us know through the Bible about Jesus Christ is very important to all Christians and we provide plenty of opportunities to explore what Christianity is all about.
The Christian Union holds events and various other activities that are aimed specifically for International students. EVERYONE is welcome to any of these events regardless of nationality or religion with no obligations to join our society or religion whatsoever. Also there is no charge!
• Week 1 – Ceilidh and International Banquet
Traditional folk dancing and plenty of food from all over the world!
• Week 2 – Italian International Café
Italian food and introduction to Italian culture
• Week 3 – Baking Workshop
Want to learn to how to bake those amazing cakes?...we’ll teach you! We’ll even provide the ingredients!
• Week 4 (Saturday, 6:30) – Fireworks!
Organised by a local church with a grub crawl and fireworks.
• Week 5 – Japanese International Café
Japanese food introduction to Japanese culture
• Week 6 – Christian Union Weekend away (no event)
A weekend away with the rest of the Christian Union members to the lovely Lake District! (Mind you there are no lakes near where we live!) Lots of Bible teaching, singing and great way to meet other CU people! You are really welcome to join us!
• Week 7 – Global café
This is where we need you! We would love your help in bringing food from your own country!
• Week 8 – Games night
The British love their board games and we’ll introduce you to some of the popular ones. Should be great laugh!
• Week 9 – Christmas party!
Be part of the seasonal festivity as we celebrate the birth of Jesus. Carol singing, some sort of exchange of gifts, andwe might even have a santa!
In the Autumn term, the course will be happening every Monday evening (weeks 3 - 10). Meet at Vanbrugh Reception, 6:45 pm or come straight to 13 Kexby Avenue at 7:15 pm.
We'll start with a meal which should be nice :) The evening will include a short talk and some discussion in groups.

These happen every Friday (sometimes Saturday) providing a fun relaxed atmosphere to meet other international and British students. And most (well almost!) importantly, there will be food. If you would like to practice your English with English speaking student this is a great opportunity! We will basically link you up with a student fluent in English with whom you could meet up regularly and chat and find help with the English language. EmailExplore
An Introductory course to the basics of Christianity. This is a fantastic opportunity of studying the Bible in an informal and relaxed setting with other Christians. There will not be any pressure whatsoever to agree with us or beleive what we beleive. It's a great way to learn more and understand what Christians beleive about God, who Jesus is and how we can get to know God better. It will be in very simple English and we are open to answer any questions you've got! Christmas is one of the most important seasons in the British calendar. In this scheme, we’ll link you up with a Christian British family to spend time with.
