International

International student?! Well first of all welcome to the UK. And to York! I’m sure the change (from your home country to the UK) must have been quite a shock to your system. If you’re finding it too cold, just wrap up tight... it will get even colder!

Just to re-emphasize... A WARM WELCOME TO YOU from UYCU

The Christian Union at York University (UYCU) is a group of Christians keen to share our friendships, lives and faith with every student on campus including International students. The exciting message God has let us know through the Bible about Jesus Christ is very important to all Christians and we provide plenty of opportunities to explore what Christianity is all about.

The Christian Union holds events and various other activities that are aimed specifically for International students. EVERYONE is welcome to any of these events regardless of nationality or religion with no obligations to join our society or religion whatsoever. Also there is no charge!

Spring 2010

This term we are looking closer at who Jesus really was. What did he do? What was he really like? Why did he come? In both the Friday night cafes and explore we will be discovering what Mark’s gospel says about the man who Christians believe is the Son of God. This will be a great opportunity to find out more about the Christian message and there will looks of chances for you to express your own opinions and ask questions.

Language link

If you would like to practice your English with an English speaking student this is a great opportunity! We will basically link you up with a student with whom you can meet up with on a regular basis and have a cup of coffee and a chat. This is a great chance for you to get to know someone new and improve your spoken English. Email Becca Stanley (rs576) If you are English speaker and can spare time to meet up on a 1-1 basis again please get in touch! We need you!

Explore

An Introductory course to the basics of Christianity, we will meet on Monday evenings, 7:15pm at Vanburgh stalls. This is a fantastic opportunity of studying the Bible in an informal and relaxed setting. There will not be any pressure whatsoever to agree with us or believe what we believe. It's a great way to learn more and understand what Christians believe about God, who Jesus is and how we can get to know God better. It will be in very simple English and we are open to answer any questions you've got! It's a great way to practice your English too!!
We'll sometimes start with a meal, or if not there will always be tea and biscuits! The evening will include a short talk and some discussion in groups.
