The CU will provide a weekly prayer bulletin, if you have any particular items for prayer relating to CU or that you want the CU to pray for please contact Duncan Sills (ds571).
Main CU Prayer Bulletin for Week 7
- Praise God for the success of LoveYourUni and pray that there would be follow up where seeds were sown. Thank God that, as well as reaching out to Non-Christians, it was also a time where Christians across both universities were encouraged by God.
- Thank him for Girl/Guy Time which were both fantastic times of fellowship and challenge.
- Pray for New Leaders Training (happening this weekend). Pray that God builds the Postholders up and equips them to do their job even better during the time away.
- Pray for the Inter College Evangelism Events. (Goodricke-Langwith-Derwent’s “What’s all the fuss about Jesus” is Monday night, while James-Halifax’s “Curious?” and Alcuin – Vanbrugh’s “More than toasties?” are on Thursday). Pray that the people giving testimonies would be given courage, wisdom and the words to say and pray that the Holy Spirit would guide the discussions that follow.
- For Alan Rose who is coming to talk at Main CU on Saturday.
- Pray for the Italian themed International Event on Friday. Pray that the team would be ok for manpower, even as a lot of them are away at NLT, and that God would work at the event.
- Pray for the planning of our Curious? events happening next term. Thank God for the vision he’s given the CU, but pray for the organisation which is going slowly at the moment. We really need speakers. So pray that the ones God wants to come and speak are available. Pray also that God inspires some creative ways of sharing the gospel in our CEC meeting this Tuesday.
- For the CU finances, that God would provide for the numerous serve events we’re currently paying for. Pray that God would give CU members a heart for giving (not just money, but also time etc.) and that everyone who took a standing order form would give it back, filled in.
College Prayer Bulletin for Week 4
- Alcuin: -Praise God for the good conversations that were had at Big Serve and pray for JCRC relations so that Alcuin CU can host regular events in the JCR.
- Derwent: -Pray that God would unite and strengthen the college in unity for effective evangelism, for their Explore group (that they would see people coming who are passionate about finding out about Jesus) and for opportunities to run Tea and toast.
- Goodricke: - Thank God that he has been working in incredible ways (particularly at Toasties and at the “Most” event). Pray that the JCRC relations would continue to be blessed and that God would continue to move in powerful (possibly surprising) ways.
- Halifax: - Thank God that the queue of people for toast at Midnight Munchies turned into a queue of people wanting to talk about Jesus and for the fantastic conversations that took place. And pray that this would lead people into “Big questions” (Explore group)
- James: -Pray for provision financially for James Toasties and thank God that he has provided thus far. And pray that they would see more people coming to their Explore Group.
- Langwith: -Pray for “Come dine with you” happening for the first time this Sunday (meal cooked by Christians in people’s blocks for the people living there). Thank God for the people who came to the “Most” event and the way God is working in their Explore Group.
- Vanbrugh: -Praise the success of “Most”. Pray that God would work in the hearts of those who came so that they would come regularly to their Explore group and pray that god would unite the whole college CU behind the vision for Vanbrugh Toasties.
- Wentworth: - Thank God for the success of Wentworth’s in depth small group and pray that God would open doors for evangelism.
Why pray?
We believe prayer is vital to our own personal relationships with God. We also believe that prayer can change situations. We pray in expectation that in every event we plan, issue we face and request we bring before God, that we will see answers and experience personally and corporately the power of prayer on campus.
Philippians 4:8 gets us into a mindset for prayer:
Finally brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think about such things
The message puts it this way:
Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It’s wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the centre of your life
There are many ways for YOU to get involved:
Prayer on campus
- FIRST and foremost we encourage people in the CU to get into prayer partners or prayer triplets. This is for accountability and support. Put the effort into meeting together and you will be so encouraged by the strength of relationship that develops through this. If you don’t have a PP or PT then contact Duncan Sills (ds571) or the crep or cec of your college.
- EARLY MORNING PRAYER- Meets every morning the in the quiet place at 8:15 to pray for our campus. Breakfast follows! Friday sees this take on prayer for global issues! Contact Owen Gower (otg501) or Duncan Sills (ds571) for more info.
- COLLEGE PRAYER- In Philemon it talks about refreshing the hearts of the saints (phil 1:7) we want prayer to be a refreshing time – to gather together corporately, declare that God is good and pray into issues. Colleges meet at the following times:
- Alcuin College Prayer: Weds and Thurs mornings 8:15am – Alcuin JCR.
- Derwent College Prayer: Thurs 8:30am – Derwent JCR.
- Goodricke College Prayer: Wed 6:15pm – L/N/049
- Halifax College Prayer – changes weekly see CRep or CEC for more details.
- James College Prayer – Tues 8:15am – James JCR
- Langwith Prayer – Tues 8:15am – Quiet Place
- Vanbrugh College Prayer – Thurs 8:15am – Vanbrugh JCR
- Wentworth Prayer – Thurs 7pm – meet at The Edge
- CIS PRAYER Christians In Sport meet Wednesday 8.30am at the Roger Kirk, join the facebook groupfor more details.
- SUBJECT PRAYER See subject reps for when specific subject prayer is – get involved.
- Finally- The first week of every month we scrap ALL PRAYER MEETINGS and meet Thursday morning 8:15 everyone together for inter-college prayer. This is led by a different CREP every month and the boys in Derwent even cook sausages for all the early risers . For more info on this see you CREP or CEC.
